PRCA Xtreme Bulls stop #4 -
Reno
PRCA
RENO, Nev., June 20, 2003 — Jason McClain of Lewis, Colo., turned
successful rides on Western Rodeo's Cold Cash and Flying U's Blue Water into
cold hard cash and the biggest win of his career. The 27-year-old was the only
cowboy to make the eight-second whistle on two bulls at the PRCA Xtreme Bulls,
held as part of the Reno Rodeo, on June 20.
In the semifinals, McClain, who is a new father, posted a 76.5 on Cold
Cash. He followed up in the finals with a 67-point ride on Blue Water. His
aggregate score of 143 put him ahead of Tyler Fowler of Theodore, Ala., who
placed second overall, and Colt Munden of Springtown, Texas, who came in third.
"It is the biggest win in my life and in my eight-year career," said
McClain, who won a total of $24,910. "Winning this will also come in handy
because I have a new baby. This is really great."
Fowler earned the competition's highest score with his 86-point ride on
Big Bend's Mr. Hyde in the finals. Munden had the second highest score with his
82.5 ride on the Flying U's Spinner.
Two-time world champ Blue Stone of Ogden, Utah, returned for his first
competition since his injury at the Austin stop for Xtreme Bulls. Stone ended up
in fifth place overall. He scored 81 points on Flying 5's Swawilla Basin. Chad
Klein of Clinton, La., rounded out the top five with his fourth place finish.
Smokeless Unforgiven, who was the 2002 Bull of the Year, was the Tour
stop's top bull.
Terry Don West of Henryetta, Okla., is still leading the overall Xtreme
Bulls standings. Xtreme Bulls in Reno is the fourth of 10 stops, and more than
5,100 attended.
